Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Shall I tell you about the best witnesses? It is one who fulfills his duty of martyrdom – or reports what he saw – before being asked to testify.” The narrator, Abdullah ibn Abu Bakr, was unsure whether his father transmitted the last two sentences.
Abu Dawud said: Malik explained it as: "It is when someone from among the parties presents evidence that he knows, without being asked, in his own favor." Al-Hamedani explained it as: “He brings this evidence to the sultan.” Ibn Sirih explained it as: “He brings this evidence to the judges.” The hadith of Hamedani contains the word ‘reporting’ (ihbar).
Ibn Sirih said, Ibn Abi Amra, and not Abdurrahman.
