The Prophet (PBUH), through his esteemed wife Khadija, was blessed with two sons and four daughters.48 The firstborn son from Khadija was al-Kasim, and the Prophet (PBUH) bore the kunya (honorific name) of “Abu’l-Kasim=Kasim’s Father” because of him.49 Al-Kasim passed away while still able to walk,50 at the age of two years.51 Safiyya bint Abd al-Muttalib’s slave, Selma, served as the midwife for all of the Prophet (PBUH)’s children.52 Selma also served as the midwife for the sons of al-Fatimah.53 During the Islamic era, the Prophet (PBUH)’s second son from Khadija was born and named Abdullah.

Abdullah was also known as Tayyib and Tahir.54 After his passing, Âs ibn Wâil, of the Kureish polytheists, said regarding the Prophet (PBUH): “Leave him alone! He is barren; his lineage will not continue! When he dies, he will be forgotten!55 You will then find relief!”56 In response, Allah revealed Surah al-Kawthar.57 Following the passing of the Prophet (PBUH)’s son, al-Kasim, the first daughter born to Khadija was Zeynab.58 Zeynab was the eldest of the Prophet (PBUH)’s daughters.59 The Prophet (PBUH) was thirty years old at the time of her birth.60 Following Zeynab, the Prophet (PBUH)’s daughter Rukayyah (Rukiyyah) was born.61 The Prophet (PBUH) was thirty-three years old at the time of Rukayyah’s birth.62 After Rukayyah, Umm Kulthum was born.63 Seyyid, 2/288.
