COMMAND OF JIHAD
The Expectation of Reward by ʿAbdullah b. Jahsh and His Companions for the Expedition of Nakhlah
When a verse (āya) was revealed concerning ʿAbdullah b. Jahsh and his companions, they also hoped to attain reward and merit for their striving (jihād) in the path of Allah, and they asked: “O Messenger of God (peace be upon him)! Can we also hope for the reward that will be given to the mujāhidūn (those who strive in Allah’s cause) because of our expedition?”[212] In the verse (āya) He revealed, the Exalted Allah said: “Indeed, those who have believed and those who have emigrated and striven in the way of Allah – it is they who hope for the mercy of Allah. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”[213]
