Agreement with Mahshi b. Amr al-Damri
In the expedition of Ebwa, there was no encounter with the polytheistic Quraysh; however, an agreement was made in Ebwa with Mahshi b. Amr, who was the leader and chief of the Banu Damra tribe at that time.[120] According to this, our Prophet (a.s.) would not fight them, nor would they fight our Prophet (a.s.). Our Prophet (a.s.) would not gather an army against Aieyhisseiama or assist any enemy. [121] Our Prophet (a.s.) also had a document written regarding this matter.[122] The written document stated: “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This is a document written by Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, for the Banu Damra. Their properties and lives are under protection. They will assist against the oppression of their enemies as long as they do not fight against the religion of Allah; as long as they have enough water to wet a thread of wool in the sea, the Prophet will assist them. When the Prophet calls them for help, they will respond to the Prophet’s call. This is a covenant and a promise from Allah and His Messenger for them. Assistance is for those who do good and keep away from evil.”[124]
