Ali's Return to the Prophet Muhammad

Ali pursued the remaining polytheist cavalrymen to the trench. He did not stoop to take the spoils of those he had killed. He returned to our Prophet’s side saying: “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah!”[257] Our Prophet asked Hz. Ali: “After you killed Amr b. Abd, how did you find yourself? In what state were you?” Hz. Ali said: “If all the people of Mecca had been on one side and I had been on the other, I would have felt that I could overcome them all!”[258] When Amr’s sister saw that her brother Amf’s body was not mutilated, she said: “Only a noble person equal to him in status could have killed him!” Then she asked who had killed him. They said: “Ali b.EbuTalib killed him.” Upon this, the woman said in her verses: “If someone other than he [Hz. Ali] had killed him, I would have wept for him endlessly!”[259]
