Ebu'l-As Returns to Medina as a Muslim After Settling the Property of the Polytheists of Quraysh
Ebu’l-As returned to Mecca with the goods he had received. After giving each rightful owner their due and completing his task, he asked: “O people of Quraysh! Has anyone here not received what I owe them from these goods?”[291] They replied, “No! By Allah, nothing is left!”[292] Ebu’l-As then asked, “Have I fulfilled my covenant with you?” They said, “Yes! By Allah, you have fulfilled it![293] May Allah reward you with good! We found you to be honorable and trustworthy!” Ebu’l-As said, “By Allah, the only thing that prevented me from becoming a Muslim before coming to your side was the fear that you would think I became a Muslim because I wanted to take your goods![294] I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the servant and messenger of Allah!”[295] Ebu’l-As returned from Mecca to Medina, to the side of our Prophet (peace be upon him). Our Prophet (peace be upon him) gave him Lady Zaynab in marriage, either according to their previous contract or a new one with a new dowry. [296]
