Hubeyb's Martyrdom at the Tree

The polytheists gathered forty children from those whose fathers had been killed in the Battle of Badr, gave each a spear and said: “Your fathers were killed by this man! Lightly spear him!”[94] Ukba b. Haris was approaching Hubeyb, who was tied to a tree, and speared him.[95] The tip of the spear that pierced Hubeyb’s chest came out from his back! Hubeyb said: “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad (Aleyhisselam) is His slave and messenger!”[96] After testifying, he surrendered his soul to the Almighty Allah. Our Prophet Aleyhisselam said: “He is my companion in Paradise!”[97] May Allah grant him mercy and be pleased with him! Ukba b. Haris said: “By God, I did not kill Hubeyb! Because I was still a child at that time.[98] I was a boy then.[99] But Abduddar’s son Ebu Meysere took the spear, put it in my hand and stabbed him with it!”[100]
