Sheep Zakat

Sheep zakat; from forty sheep to ninety-nine, one sheep is due. From a hundred sheep to two hundred, two sheep are due. From two hundred sheep to three hundred, three sheep are due. After three hundred sheep, for every hundred sheep, one sheep is due. After three hundred sheep, there is no need to give anything until the number reaches a hundred.[343] If someone’s grazing sheep are less than forty by one, zakat is not due.[344] However, if they wish to give voluntarily, they may do so.[345] Elderly, blind, or severely defective animals are not given as zakat.[346] The zakat of properties subject to zakat is given after being with the owner for one year.[347] Neither the best nor the worst of the zakatable animals are given; rather, those of average quality are given.[348]
