Sümâme's Conversion to Islam

When Sümâme was released from the direct bondage he was attached to, Allah placed love for Islam in his heart. [56] “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah!” he said.[57] Our Prophet (PBUH) ordered him to go to Ebu Talha’s garden and perform ghusl.[58] Sümâme immediately went, performed ghusl beautifully, and returned. He pledged allegiance to our Prophet (PBUH) on Islam and became a Muslim. May Allah be pleased with him! In the evening, they brought food. Sümâme ate only a small amount of that food. He also drank only a small amount of the milk from the cured camel. The Muslims were amazed by this. Our Prophet (PBUH) said: “Are you surprised by a man who eats with the stomach of a disbeliever in the morning and with the stomach of a Muslim in the evening?[59] A disbeliever eats with the stomach of disbelief, while a Muslim eats with one stomach!” [60]
