The Attempted Assassination of Our Prophet by Three Jews in Busra and Their Deterrence by Monk Bahira

It is narrated that; during our Prophet’s (PBUH) journey to Damascus with his uncle Abu Talib, the things that Monk Bahira saw in our Prophet (PBUH), People of the Book455, Jews456, Zebir457, Temmam458 and Deris459 also saw them. They planned to kill our Prophet (PBUH). They discussed this with Monk Bahira as well, and they talked.461 These Jews thought that Monk Bahira would also join their views regarding the assassination of our Prophet (PBUH)462. Monk Bahira strongly dissuaded them from doing such a thing463. He reminded them of Allah.

The Book mentions that they found the description and attributes of the future prophet, but even if they wanted to kill him, they would not be able to. 464 He asked them, “Did you not find His attributes in the Book?” They said, “Yes, we found it.” Bahira said, “Then, for you, there is no way or means to kill Him!”465 Upon this, they were convinced of the truth of what Bahira had said and left our Prophet (PBUH), turned back and went away.466
