The Conversion of the Jewish Scholar Muhayrik and His Martyrdom at Uhud
Muhayrik; Sa’lebe b. Fityevn’s sons,[179] Beni Kaynuqa or Beni Nadir Jews[180] were among the scholars. He knew our Prophet (PBUH) by the attributes in the Torah. Until the Battle of Uhud, he could not explain what he found in his knowledge under the influence of his own religion.[182] When our Prophet (PBUH) went to the Battle of Uhud, he said to the Jews: “O Jewish community! By Allah, you know very well that it is a duty upon you to support Muhammad [183] as a prophet!”[184] The Jews said, “Today is Saturday, nothing should be done!” Muhayrik said, “There is no such thing as Saturday for you!” He took his sword and provisions, and told one of his relatives, “If I am killed today, all my property belongs to Muhammad. He will do whatever he wishes with it, as Allah has shown him.” He went to Uhud and became a martyr.[185] May Allah be pleased with him! When Muhayrik was martyred in the Battle of Uhud, our Prophet (PBUH) took over the seven date gardens he left behind and endowed them. Most of the endowments of our Prophet (PBUH) in Medina were from Muhayrik’s property.[186] Our Prophet (PBUH) said, “Muhayrik is the best among the Jews!”[187]
