The Process of Bay'ah
Hazrat Abbas, in Akaba at night under a tree68, took the hand of our Prophet (PBUH) and made the Medinan Muslims pledge allegiance to our Prophet (PBUH) one by one.69 It is narrated that our Prophet (PBUH) said in the pledge: “Do not associate anything with Allah! Do not steal! Do not kill your children! Do not slander anyone with a lie you have fabricated! Do not oppose me in any good deed…” I am taking this pledge from you. Whoever among you keeps his covenant and is true to his word, his reward and recompense belong to Allah.
Whoever breaks his word and does one of these things and suffers punishment for it in the world, this punishment will be an expiation and purification for him. The deed of whoever Allah covers up is left to Allah. If Allah wishes, He will punish him; if He wishes, He will forgive him.”70
