The Prohibition of Magic in Islam
one day: “Beware of the seven things that lead to ruin!” he said. “O Messenger of Allah! What are these dangerous things?” they asked. Our Prophet (PBUH) said: “1. Associating partners with Allah, 2. Practicing magic, 3. Killing a soul which Allah has forbidden except for [a right reason], such as murder or killing in war, 4. Consuming interest, 5. Eating the property of an orphan, 6. Fleeing from the battlefield, 7. Accusing chaste women who never even thought of anything touching their chastity and are saved from suspicion!”[54] Also, according to what our Prophet (PBUH) said: “Whoever ties a knot and practices magic has committed shirk; whoever practices magic has disbelieved (committed a major sin)!”[55] “Practicing magic for the sake of love or other purposes, such as reading threads or writing amulets is shirk!”[56] “Whoever goes to a fortune-teller, a diviner, or an astrologer and asks them about the unseen, believes in what they say, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (PBUH)!”[57] “One who believes in magic will not enter Paradise!”[58]
