The Prohibition of Weeping for Ja'far
Aisha said: “When the news of Ja’far’s martyrdom reached us, we understood that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was very sad. [196] The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was sitting in the Mosque, and I was looking at him from a distance where I could see him.[197] At that moment, a man came to the side of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! [198] Women are weeping for Ja’far. They have led us into fitna!’ The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered: ‘Go back and silence them!’ The man went and came back, saying that he had prevented them from screaming but they did not listen to him.[201] The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ‘Go back and silence them! If they refuse to be silent,[204] throw dust in their mouths!’ I thought to myself about the man: ‘May Allah punish you! May your face and nose hit the ground! You have, by Allah, abandoned obeying the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)!’ I said. [207] I understood that the man was not strong enough to throw dust in their mouths!”[208]
