The Prophet's Miracle: Turning Hard Ground into Sand
Cabir b. Abdullah said: ‘On the day of digging the trench, we encountered a very hard surface while digging. We went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and complained that we had come across a layer of hard earth in the trench which made it impossible to dig with a spade. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked for some water in a container. After he rinsed his mouth with the water, said as much prayer as Allah wished, and then poured this water over the hard surface. Those present said: ‘By Allah who sent down the true religion and the Book and made you a prophet, that hard surface crumbled so much that it was like sand! It no longer resisted digging or an iron spade!'[71]
