The Prophet's Preparation to Confront the Hevazin
Peace be upon him; When Abdullah b. Ebi Hadrad received news of the Hevazin, he hurried to prepare for a confrontation with them. It was mentioned that there were armor plates with Safvan b. Umayya. The Prophet peace be upon him sent word to him. Safvan had not yet become Muslim and was still a polytheist. The Prophet peace be upon him said to him: “O Aba Umayya! Tomorrow we will go and confront our enemy! Hand over your weapons to us as a trust!”[64] Safvan asked, “O Muhammad, are you asking me to hand them over so that I cannot take them back?” The Prophet peace be upon him said, “No! We want them to remain with us as a trust until we return them to you, and for any losses to be compensated.”[65] Safvan said, “If that is the case, then there is no problem!” He gave one hundred suits of armor and enough weapons.[67] The Prophet peace be upon him also asked him to carry these to the battlefield. Safvan agreed to fulfill this request of the Prophet peace be upon him.[68] The Prophet peace be upon him also took three thousand spears from his cousin’s son, Nevfel b. Haris.[69]
