The Reason and Wisdom Behind the Punishment of Ükl and Uranî

The punishment of Ükl and Uranî in this way was due to the fact that they had killed the Islamic shepherd in the same manner, and so they were punished in the same way.[555] This was a retribution.[556] In retribution, there is life.[557] It was to frighten the evil-doers and oppressors by showing them that they will be punished for what they have done or will do; to deter them from this evil behavior and conduct; and especially, to ensure the protection of the lives of Muslims. [558] The ruling of the Qur’an on this matter is as follows: “The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land, is that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and feet should be cut off on opposite sides, or be banished from the land. That is a disgrace for them in this world, and a great punishment awaits them in the Hereafter.”[559]
