Berâ’ b. Ma’rur said to Hz. Abbas: “We have heard what you have said! By Allah, if there were anything else in our hearts other than what you have said, we would surely say it! But we desire to show loyalty and faithfulness to the covenant, to sacrifice ourselves before Resûlullah Aleyhisselam!³⁶ We are those who possess abundant weapons, defensive and protective power! Even when we were worshipping stones, we were like this! Today; Allah has shown us things that others cannot see and Muhammed Aleyhisselam has strengthened us even more!” he said.³⁷ Some of the Ansar also said to Hz. Abbas: “We have heard what you have said!” then they said to our Prophet, Aleyhisselam: “O Rasûlallah! You speak too!

Take from us whatever word you wish for yourself and your Lord!” Upon this, our Prophet, Aleyhisselam spoke and recited the Qur’ân-ı Kerîm. He invited them to Allah and encouraged them towards Islam.³⁸ “My condition with the Most High Lord;³⁹ what I ask of you⁴⁰ is to worship Him without associating anything as a partner or equal.⁴¹ As for my condition regarding my desire: That you accommodate me and my companions, that you assist me and my companions, that you defend and protect us from the things you defend and protect yourselves. Regarding defending and protecting me from the things you defend and protect your women and children, I will make a covenant with you!” he declared.⁴⁴ Berâ’ b.

Ma’rur immediately took our Prophet Aleyhisselam’s hand and said: “It is done! I swear by Allah who sent you as a prophet with the true religion and scripture that we will defend and protect you from the things we defend and protect our children! Make a covenant with us, O Rasûlallah! We are indeed warriors and fighters! This has been passed down to us from our ancestors!” While speaking, Ebu’l- Heysem Malik b. Teyyihan intervened in the conversation and said: Bidâye, 3/160, Heysemî, 6/44.
