ʿAbbās b. Muḥammed b. ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās. He was the uncle of Hārūn al-Rashīd. He was among the leading figures of the Quraysh. During the reign of Hārūn al-Rashīd, he was appointed governor of al-Jazīra. On one occasion, Hārūn al-Rashīd gave him 5,000,000 dirhams. The cemetery is named after ʿAbbās b. Muḥammed.

He passed away at the age of sixty-five. His funeral prayer was led by al-Amīn. He was buried in the Abbasid cemetery.
