ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Ḥāris b. Asad b. Lays Abū'l-Ḥasan al-Tamīmī. He was a Ḥanbalī faqīh (jurist). He has works concerning ʿilm al-kalām (the science of theology). He listened to ḥadīth and transmitted from many people. al-Ḥāṭib al-Baghdādī claimed that he fabricated ḥadīth. However, Ibn al-Jawzī rejected this and said: “al-Ḥāṭib al-Baghdādī always says this about the followers and companions of Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal. These words of al-Ḥāṭib come from his teacher Abū al-Qāsim ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. Asad al-Akbari, whose reliability is questionable, because he was a Muʿtazilī. He was not from the people of ḥadīth, and that person used to say that the kāfirūn (disbelievers) would not remain eternally in Jahannam (Hell).”
I say: This is a strange statement, because the Muʿtazilīs say that the kāfirūn, and even those who commit major sins, will remain eternally in Jahannam.
Ibn Baṭṭah also transmitted some statements of ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Ḥāris concerning the science of kalām.
