Shaʿwāne was a Black slave woman who engaged in much worship. Beautiful sayings have been transmitted from her.
Fudayl b. ʿIyāḍ once requested her to make dua (supplication) for him, to which she replied: "Is there not a means between you and Allah such that, when you supplicate to Him, He responds to your supplication?"
Upon hearing this answer from Shaʿwāne, Fudayl sobbed, fell to the ground, and fainted.
