He is also called Ibn Abī'l-Feth al-Ḥākānī. His kunyah was Abū'l-ʿAbbās an-Najjād. He was the imam of the Damascus Mosque.
Ibn ʿAsākir said: "He was a devout and righteous person. It is narrated that a group came to visit him, and inside they heard him sigh due to a pain, and they found this situation strange. When he came out and approached the visitors, he said to them: 'The word "Ah" is the name of the exalted Being from whom grace and spirituality are sought.' This statement made him appear even greater in the eyes of the visitors."
I say: Whether this statement was truly said by him or not is unknown. Rather, in this matter, an authentic hadith coming from an infallible person, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him), is needed. For the names of the Exalted Allah, according to authentic opinion, are restricted (tawqīfī). Random words cannot be attributed to Him as names.
