Ahmed b. Muḥammad b. Ahmed b. Qāsim b. Ismāʿīl b. Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl b. Saʿīd b. Abbān ad-Dabbī Abū'l-Ḥasan al-Mahāmilī. The nisba Mahāmilī derives from the Arabic term mahmil, which denotes the litter or palanquin used by travelers. He studied fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) from Abū Ḥāmid al-Isfarāyīnī. He excelled in fiqh. Ultimately, his teacher said of him, “Ahmed b. Muḥammad has memorized fiqh better than I.” Ahmed b. Muḥammad is known for his famous classified works. Indeed, works such as al-Lubbāb, al-Awsaṭ, and al-Muqnīʿ belong to him. He also authored books on munāẓara (dialectical disputation).
He wrote marginal notes on the works of Abū Ḥāmid.
Ibn Ḥallikān said:
“Ahmed b. Muḥammad was born in the year 368 AH. He passed away at a young age on a Wednesday, nine days before the end of the month of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir in that year.”
