Aʿlāb al-Ḥaḍramī

This person was appointed as the governor of Bahrain by the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him), and he continued this duty during the times of Abu Bakr and ʿUmar. As mentioned on previous pages, he passed away in the fourteenth year of the Hijra. There are also those who say that he lived until the twenty-first year of the Hijra. ʿUmar removed him from his post in Bahrain and appointed Abu Hurayra as governor in his place. On his return from the Hajj, before reaching Bahrain, ʿUmar appointed him as governor of Kufa. Indeed, we have mentioned this on previous pages. Allah knows best. In the section of this book on the proofs of prophethood, we have recounted how this person, together with his soldiers, walked on water and the extraordinary states (ḥāl) he manifested.
