ʿAlī b. Asākir b. Marḥab b. Awwām Abū'l-Ḥasan al-Baṭāʾīḥī. He was a qurrāʾ (Qurʾān reciter) and a linguist. He listened to ḥadīth and transmitted them. He had an excellent knowledge of nahw (Arabic grammar) and lughah (language). He endowed his books to the Ibn Jarrārah Mosque in Baghdad. He passed away in the month of Shaʿbān of this year at the age of over eighty.
