His kunyah was Abū al-Ḥasan al-Ḥarbī. He became famous under the name al-Kāzvīnī. He was born at the beginning of the month of Muḥarram in the year 360 AH, that is, on the night when Abū Bakr al-Ajrūʾī passed away. He heard ḥadīth from Abū Bakr b. Shazān and Abū Ḥafṣ b. Ḥaywayh. He was very intelligent. He was among the foremost of Allah's righteous servants. He had many karāmāt (saintly wonders). He used to recite the Qurʾān and transmit ḥadīth. He would leave his house solely for the purpose of performing ṣalāh (prayer) at the mosque. He passed away in the month of Shawwāl of that year. On the day of his death, all the shops in Baghdad were closed. People attended his funeral. Truly, that day was a magnificent day to behold. May Allah have mercy on him.
