Alqama b. Mujazziz

This individual, who passed away in the twenty-third year of the Hijra, has the following lineage: Alqama b. Mujazziz b. ʿAwar b. Jaʿda b. Muʿādh b. Atwāra b. ʿAmr b. Mudlij al-Kinānī al-Mudlijī. He commanded several detachments appointed by the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him). He was a humorous person. On one occasion, while commanding a detachment, he lit a fire and ordered his companions under his command to enter the fire, but they did not do so. Regarding this incident, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If they had entered the fire, they would not have been able to come out of it." Again, concerning this event, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Obedience is in matters that are proper and legitimate." Alqama was a generous and praiseworthy person. Upon his death, Jawās al-ʿUzrī recited the following elegy: "Peace and the finest salutations go back and forth upon Ibn Mujazziz."
