According to what Shaykh ʿAbdurraḥmān al-Bāghdādī, one of the leaders and merchants of Baghdad, and also Shaykh Shihāb al-Dīn al-ʿAṭṭār, a beverage broker from Baghdad, informed me, after ʿUways, the governor of Iraq and Khurāsān, took Baghdad from Tawāshī Marjān, ʿUways summoned Tawāshī (Ḥādim) Marjān before him, treated him generously, and bestowed gifts upon him. Then there was a consensus that the source of this discord was the vizier's brother, Emir Aḥmad. The Sultan then brought Emir Aḥmad, the vizier's brother, before him, stabbed him in the abdomen, tearing his intestines, and afterwards ordered certain emirs to kill him. Thus, Emir Aḥmad was killed. As a result, Ahl al-Sunnah gained great strength and victory in this incident. The residents of the Bab al-Azīz neighborhood burned the planks of Bab al-Azīz, and the events thus calmed down. Moreover, they rejoiced and felt relieved because the Exalted Allah caused the destruction of the Rafīḍī vizier who had killed Shaykh Jamāl al-Dīn al-ʿAnbarī a few days later.
