Abū's-Saʿādat ʿIsāʿad b. Muḥammad b. Mūsā. He was a Shāfiʿī faqīh (jurist). He was a poet. Ibn Ḥallīkān said of him: He was a faqīh. He has discourses on ʿilm al-khilāf (the science of juridical disagreement). However, his poetry predominates. He wrote beautiful poems. He became famous through his naẓm (verse). With his poetry, he served rulers. He received rewards from them. He traveled to various cities. In the Ṭurbat al-Ashrafiyya in Damascus, there is a dīwān (collection) of his, one of his beautiful poems containing subtle meanings is as follows:
“I swear by your love that consolation has never even crossed his mind. You know better his state in love. If a spy comes to you and falsely reports that he has poured water on your love,
Know that this person is among his enemies.
Is he not a witness to his infatuation and black passion?
His apparent state? This state leaves no need for you to ask about his other aspects.
You renewed his garment of sickness, you lifted the veil of love, and you also broke the cord of union.”
This is a long qaṣīda (ode) in which he praised Qāḍī Kamāl al-Dīn al-Shahrizūrī.
The following poem also belongs to Bahāʾ al-Sinjārī:
“I swear by Allah that my days pass in vain. My beautiful times are always detained. My time passes so quickly, as if the beginning causes the end to stumble.”
Bahāʾ al-Sinjārī passed away this year at the age of ninety. May Allah have mercy on him by His grace and generosity.
