Al-Bukhārī, through the transmission of ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh, narrated from Abū Hurayra as follows:
The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the morning prayer, then turned to the people and said: "At one point, a man was driving a cow ahead of him. Then he mounted it and began to beat it, whereupon the cow said: 'We were not created for this purpose. We were created for plowing the fields.' The people exclaimed: 'Glory be to God! A cow is speaking!' The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: 'I believe this. Abū Bakr and ʿUmar also believe this, even though they are not present here.' Then, at another time, a man was tending his flock of sheep when a wolf attacked the flock and seized a sheep. The man pursued it and managed to rescue the sheep from the wolf's mouth. The wolf said to him: 'You have rescued it from my mouth, but on the day of the beast, when there will be no shepherd but me, who will rescue it from me?' The people said: 'Glory be to God! A wolf is speaking!' The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) replied to them:
'I believe this. Abū Bakr and ʿUmar also believe this, even though they are not present here.'
Al-Bukhārī narrated from Abū Hurayra that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
'Indeed, among the nations before you there were muḥaddithūn (those who are inspired). There are such individuals in my community as well. Surely, ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb is one of them.'
Al-Bukhārī, through the transmission of ʿAbd Allāh b. Maslama, narrated from Ḥumayd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān as follows: I heard Muʿāwiya b. Abī Sufyān, in the year he performed the pilgrimage, holding a lock of hair in his hand on the pulpit and saying: "O people of Medina! Where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid such practices (i.e., wearing hair extensions). The women of the Children of Israel were destroyed because they wore hair extensions."
Al-Bukhārī narrated from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab as follows: Muʿāwiya b. Abī Sufyān, during his last visit to Medina, delivered a sermon to us. During the sermon, he showed a lock of hair and said: "I have not seen anyone do this (wear hair extensions) except the Jews. For the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) considered wearing hair extensions to be falsehood."
Al-Bukhārī narrated from Abū Hurayra that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
'Once, a dog was circling a well, about to die of thirst. One of the prostitutes from the Children of Israel saw it. She took off her shoe, drew water with it, and gave the dog to drink. Because of this, her sin was forgiven.'
Al-Bukhārī narrated from ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUmar that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
'A woman captured a cat and kept it imprisoned until it died. Because of this, she entered Hell. She neither fed it nor gave it water, nor did she let it go so that it might eat from the earth.'
Imām Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, through the transmission of ʿUthmān b. ʿUmar, narrated from Abū Saʿīd that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among the Children of Israel there was a short woman. She had two wooden feet made for herself. She put them on and began to walk between two tall women. She also had a ring made of gold, under whose bezel she placed the finest perfumes and musk. Whenever she entered a gathering, she would move her ring, thus spreading its fragrance."
Al-Bukhārī, through the transmission of Ādam, narrated from Ibn Masʿūd that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
'Among the words that have reached people from the earliest prophetic speech is this: "If you feel no shame, then do as you wish."'
Imām Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal narrated from Abū Hurayra that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among the previous communities, there was a man and his wife. They possessed nothing. When the man returned from a journey, he came to his wife hungry. He was very hungry. He asked his wife:
- Do you have anything with you? She replied:
- Yes, rejoice! Allah's provision has come. The man pressed his wife: - Woe to you! If you have something to eat, I want it. She replied:
- Yes, may it be blessed for you. We hope for Allah's mercy. The man waited a while longer, and when he saw the matter was delayed, he again said to his wife:
- Woe to you! If you have something to eat, bring it to me, for I am tired, exhausted, and hungry. She replied:
- Yes, there is. Now the oven is about to finish cooking the food, do not rush. The man waited a while longer, and when he saw the matter was delayed, as he was about to ask his wife again, she said: "Let me get up and check my oven." She got up and went to the oven. Inside, she saw the carcass of a sheep. The mill was also working. She went and cleaned the mill, took out the flour inside. Then she took out the sheep's carcass from the oven. By Allah, in whose hand is my soul, if she had only taken out the flour from the mill and had not completely cleaned it, that mill would have continued to work and grind flour until the Day of Resurrection."
Imām Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, through the transmission of Abū ʿĀmir, narrated from Abū Hurayra as follows:
A man came to his wife. Seeing that his children were in need, he went out to the desert. When his wife saw the poverty that had befallen them, she got up and went to her mill. She set it up, then went to the oven, lit a fire, and said: "O Allah, provide for us." Suddenly, she saw that the mill's trough was full of flour. She went to the oven and saw that it was also full. Then her husband returned home. He asked his wife: "Has anything come to you?" She replied: "Yes, something has come to us from our Lord." She took her husband to the mill. Then she went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him what had happened. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If your wife had not removed the mill, it would have continued to grind flour for you until the Day of Resurrection."
Abū Hurayra says: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "By Allah, if one of you were to take a bundle of firewood, carry it to the market, sell it, and maintain his dignity without begging, it would be better for him than going to a man and begging from him."
