He became famous under the name Tavü. He was a person whose religious feelings were weak and who did not perform the prayer. He possessed an enviable mastery of the science of dialectics (jadal). According to the terminology of the later scholars, he also had a very good understanding of the science of khilāf (disputation). He had specialized in matters that were of no benefit. He passed away this year.

Muḥammad b. Dāwūd b. Yāqūt al-Sārimī was a muḥaddith. He wrote many ṭabaqāt (biographical) works and other books.

He was a virtuous and devout person. He would entrust his books to others for safekeeping. He was constantly occupied with listening to hadith. May the Exalted Allah have mercy on him.
