He belonged to the Himyarite and Sinhājī tribes. He also bore the name Yūsuf. He was one of the great commanders of al-Muʿizz al-Fāṭimī. When al-Muʿizz was going to Cairo, he left him as his deputy in Ifrīqiya. He had a good style of administration and way of life. He owned 400 slave girls. He was given the glad tidings that nineteen children were born to him in one night. He is the grandfather of Bādīs al-Maghribī.
