Barāʾ b. ʿĀzib

Barāʾ b. ʿĀzib b. Ḥāris b. ʿAdī b. Majdāʿ b. Ḥāritha b. Ḥāris b. Khazraj b. ʿAmr b. Mālik b. Aws al-Anṣārī al-Ḥārithī al-Awsī. He was a Companion (ṣaḥābī) of high standing. His father was also among the Companions (ṣaḥāba). He narrated a large number of hadith from the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him). He also transmitted hadith from Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, and others. Among the Successors (tābiʿūn) and some Companions (ṣaḥāba), there were those who narrated from him as well. It is reported that he died in Kufa while Musʿab b. al-Zubayr was governor of Iraq.
