This individual was the father of Nuʿmān b. Bashīr. He was present at the Second ʿAqaba Pledge, the Battle of Badr, and the subsequent expeditions. It is reported that he was the first person from the Anṣār (the Helpers) to embrace Islam. He was also the first among the Anṣār in the land of Banū Saʿīda to pledge allegiance to Abū Bakr. He participated in battles alongside Khālid b. al-Walīd, and was ultimately martyred in the Battle of ʿAyn al-Tamr. May Allah be pleased with him. Al-Nasāʾī transmitted from him the hadith concerning the honeybee (al-Naḥl). Saʿīs b. Juthāma al-Laythī (the brother of Muḥkam b. Juthāma) also narrated several hadiths from him, which he had transmitted from the Messenger of God (peace be upon him). Abū Ḥātim said: Bashīr b. Saʿd b. Thāliba al-Khazrajī emigrated (performed the hijra). He settled in Waddān. He died during the caliphate of Abū Bakr.
