Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad b. Ḥusayn b. Muṣṭafā Abū Bakr al-Faryābī. He was the judge (qāḍī) of Dīnawar. He traveled to many places in pursuit of knowledge. He studied under numerous teachers. Among the scholars from whom he learned were Qutayba, Abū Kurayb, and ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī. Abū Ḥusayn b. Munāda, Najjād, Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī, and several others also studied with him and transmitted reports from him.
He made Baghdad his home. He was trustworthy (thiqa), a proof (ḥujja), and a memorizer (ḥāfiẓ) of hadith. The number of those who attended his gatherings was around 30,000. Those who listened to and wrote down hadith from him numbered more than 300. About 10,000 people listened to hadith from him and participated in his gatherings. He died in the month of Muḥarram of this year at the age of ninety-four. Five years before his death, he had a grave dug for himself. Before his death, he would come and stand by this grave. However, after his death, he was not buried in that grave but in another place. Wherever he is, may Allah have mercy on him.
Abū Saʿīd al-Jannābī al-Qarmaṭī
His real name was Ḥasan b. Bahrām. He was the leader of the Qarmaṭīs. May Allah destroy him. He held sway over Bahrain and its surrounding regions.
ʿAlī b. Aḥmad al-Rāṣibī
He governed Wāsiṭ, Shahrizūr, and other regions. Upon his death, he left behind 1,000,000 dinars, gold and silver vessels worth 100,000 dinars, 1,000 cattle, and about 1,000 horses, mules, and camels.
