Cemaleddin Abū'l-ʿAbbās Aḥmad b. Sharaf al-Dīn b. Cemaleddin Muḥammad b. Abī'l-Fath Nasrullāh b. Asad b. Ḥamza b. Asad b. ʿAlī b. Muḥammad al-Tamīmī al-Dimashqī Ibn Kalānīsī. He was a qāḍīʾasker (military judge), deputy of the treasury (beltu'l-mal), and a lecturer at the ʿAmmiyya Madrasa and other madrasas. He memorized the work entitled al-Tanbīh, and later Rāfiʿī's book al-Muḥarrar. He would repeatedly review and study these works. He acquired knowledge from Shaykh Ṭāj al-Dīn al-Fazārī. He advanced in the pursuit of knowledge and governance. He held many high offices and taught in many places. In his time, he became an unparalleled figure in leadership, dynasty, and religious and worldly ranks. He was humble, graceful in his conduct, affectionate, charitable and benevolent towards the learned, the poor, and the righteous, and was authorized to issue fatwās. I was present when the document granting him permission to issue fatwās was written. His expressions were very magnificent and beautiful.

He passed away on the twenty-sixth Saturday of the month of Dhu al-Qaʿda this year. He was buried in the family cemetery in Qasyūn. He heard hadiths from many hadith masters. Fakhr al-Dīn al-Baʿlabakkī prepared a work providing information about the shaykhs from whom he had heard hadiths. May Allah have mercy on him.
