At the end of the month of Shawwāl this year, on a Monday, a session was held in the justice chamber at Dār al-Saʿāda. On that day, as usual, the qāḍīs and members of the notable class also attended this session. ʿUthmān al-Dakkāni was also brought to this meeting. May Allah curse him. Some claimed that he uttered words containing great sins that had not even been transmitted from Hallāj or Ibn Abī Gadafīr al-Sūlakmānī. Evidence and documents were also presented regarding his claim to divinity. May Allah curse him. Other accusations were attributed to him, such as disparaging the Prophets, associating with suspicious persons, and sitting and socializing with those belonging to the Baṣrī and Hulūlī schools of thought. May Allah curse all of these. In the assembly, he was disrespectful towards the Hanbalī Qāḍī. He also made statements about the takfīr (excommunication) of the Mālikīs.
He claimed that some witnesses were prejudiced against him. Ultimately, he was chained and taken back to prison. The Exalted Allah imprisoned him by His power and might. Then, on Tuesday, the twenty-first of Dhū al-Qaʿda, ʿUthmān al-Dakkāni was brought again to Dār al-Saʿāda. In the presence of the emirs and qāḍīs, he was asked to prove his claim that the witnesses testifying against him were prejudiced. However, he could not do so. Since he failed to prove this, a judgment was passed against him. The Mālikī Qāḍī was asked to issue a verdict against him, and after invoking Allah and sending blessings upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the Mālikī Qāḍī ruled that al-Dakkāni’s blood be shed, even if he repented. Following this, al-Dakkāni was captured and taken to the market called Sūq al-Ḥayl in Damascus, where his neck was struck.
Then a loud announcement was made: "This is the punishment for those belonging to the Hulūlī school!" That day, there was a vast crowd at Dār al-Saʿāda.
A large number of people from the notable class and the ulama attended the meeting. ʿUmar al-Dīn al-Muʿayyad al-Ḥalabī and others who participated expressed their views on the matter and encouraged the issuance of a verdict against al-Dakkāni. They testified against him with many proofs of his heresy. Similarly, Shaykh Taqī al-Dīn ibn Taymiyya’s brother, Shaykh Zayn al-Dīn, also testified against him. The Mālikī, Ḥanafī, and Hanbalī qāḍīs executed the verdict passed in the assembly and were present at the place of his execution. I myself was involved in this matter from beginning to end.
On Friday, the twenty-eighth of Dhū al-Qaʿda this year, Emir Tanboğa Ḥājjā and Emir Olcay Boğa, who were in the fortress, were released. Likewise, the treasurers of Tengiz who remained in the fortress were also freed. People were very pleased with this situation.
