He was a great ʿālim (scholar). He was a reliable authority. He traveled to various regions for the purpose of collecting ḥadīth and was among the last generations of the salaf al-ṣāliḥīn (righteous predecessors). His lineage is as follows: Shihāb al-Dīn Abū'l-Maʿālī Aḥmad b. Isḥāq b. Muḥammad b. Muʿayyad b. ʿAlī b. Ismāʿīl b. Abī Ṭālib al-Eberkuhī al-Hamadānī. He was born in the month of Rajab or Shaʿbān in the year 615 AH in Eberkuh, near Shiraz. He heard ḥadīth from many ʿulamāʾ (scholars). He received ijāzah (authorization) from them. He was a refined, capable, and beautiful scholar. He passed away in Mecca four days after the departure of the Ḥajj in that year. May Allah have mercy on him.
