Abū ʿAlī Yaḥyā b. al-Rabīʿ b. Sulaymān b. Ḥarrār al-Wāsiṭī al-Baghdādī. He studied at the Nizāmiyya madrasa under Faḍlān. He served as his assistant. Then he went to Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā. He learned his method in the science of ḥilf (dialectics). Afterwards, he returned to Baghdad. He became a muʿaddith (lecturer) at the Nizāmiyya. He was also appointed as the supervisor of the Nizāmiyya endowment. He listened to ḥadīth. He acquired excellent knowledge of many sciences and madhhabs. He authored a four-volume tafsīr (Qur'anic exegesis). He used to teach that tafsīr as a textbook. He abridged the history of al-Khaṭīb al-Baghdādī and the Zayl (Supplement) written on that history by Ibn Samʿānī. He summarized and shortened it. He passed away this year, approaching eighty years of age.
