Abū ʿAlī Yaḥyā b. Mubārak b. Julācilī. He was the son of a merchant. He listened to ḥadīth. He was a person of handsome appearance. He lived in the caliphate palace. He was a learned person and had beautiful poems. One of his poems is as follows:
“The best brother is the one who shares your pains.
Where is the one who shares your pains?!
Your good brother is the one who pleases you among people when he sees you.
In your absence, he is your eyes and ears.
He is like an agate. When fire touches him, it polishes and brightens him.
Thus, his adornment and beauty increase even more.
The bad brother is angry with you in your absence.
When present, he is very bad.
His pocket is of no benefit to you. His only desire
Is that your friend be subjected to slander and lies.
Fear him, beware, do not seek help from him.
Because the loan money he gives is like losing your ready cash.”
