Ahmad b. Muḥammad b. Hānī al-Ṭāʾī al-ʿAsram. He was a student of Imām Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal. He studied and listened to ḥadīth from ʿAffān, Abū Walīd, al-Kāʿnabī, Abū Nuʾaym, and many others. He was a ḥāfiẓ (memorizer of ḥadīth), truthful in speech, and a person with a strong memory.
Due to the strength of his memory and quick comprehension, Ibn Māʿīn said that one of his parents was from the jinn.
He authored books on ḥadīth ʿilal (hidden defects), nasīḥ (abrogating) and mansūkh (abrogated) ḥadīth. In knowledge,
he was a sea among personalities,
