His lineage is as follows: Abū Haytham b. al-Tayyihān Mālik b. Mālik b. Isl Jusham b. Ḥāris b. Khazraj b. ʿAmr b. Mālik b. Aws al-Anṣārī al-Awsī. He was present as a representative at the Pledge of ʿAqaba. He participated in the Battle of Badr and in subsequent battles. He died in the twentieth year of the Hijra (according to another narration, in the twenty-first year). It is also said that he participated in the Battle of Ṣiffīn alongside ʿAlī.
