Aḥmad b. Masʿūd b. Muḥannad al-Qurṭubī al-Ḥazrajī. He was a leader in tafsīr (Qur'anic exegesis), fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), ḥisāb (arithmetic), farāʾiḍ (Islamic inheritance law), nahw (syntax), lughah (lexicography), ʿarūḍ (prosody), and medicine. He had excellent classifications in these fields, and one of his poems containing subtle meanings is as follows: "The brightness and splendor of flowers in the gardens are on his cheeks.
