Abū'l-ʿAbbās ibn Wasīl

He served as governor of Sayraf and Basra. Previously, he was in service in Karḥ. He used to say that he would become a ruler in the future, and for this reason, his companions mocked him. One of them asked, "If you become a ruler, what will you give me?" Another said, "If you become a ruler, appoint me to a position." A third said, "Employ me as your servant." And another said, "If you become a ruler, clothe me with a khilʿa (robe of honor)." By the whim of fate, circumstances changed. Eventually, he took over the rulership of Sayraf and Basra. He seized the region of Bāṭiḥa from Muḥizzib al-Dawla and expelled him from the country. So much so that Muḥizzib al-Dawla was forced to ride a cow as he departed. Abū'l-ʿAbbās ibn Wasīl invaded those territories and marched upon the city of Ahvaz. He defeated Bāhāʾ al-Dawla. However, later Bāhāʾ al-Dawla captured him and killed him in the month of Shaʿbān. He paraded his severed head throughout the land.
