Abū'l-Faḍl Rišvān b. Manṣūr b. Rišvān al-Kurdī. He became famous under the name Nakāf. He was born in Arbū. He joined the army and served his country as a soldier. He was a literary man and a poet. He served in the retinue of Sultan ʿĀdil. One of his poems is as follows:
“Ask me about the sharp swords and spears. Ask me about the horses racing with storms. When the lion is about to enter the battle,
Ask me also about the lion who faces the high spears. When I, the war-cry of the nārajm, call out on the battlefield, I am a person whose mind and thought are firm; I never falter. I drag my soul into the waves of the sea of death. When these seas are stormy, I do not fear being wounded. Many nights I stayed awake. I looked at the stars until dawn. I awaited the morning.
Many times on high hills I waited with my horse and grew weak. We needed to take a noon rest; for the sake of your eyes, morning and evening, what I encountered in dust and smoke. I march on the battlefield. I do not flee backward.”
