Abū'l-Ḥasan Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar

Abū'l-Ḥasan Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar b. Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-ʿAbbās al-Hāshimī. After Ibn Naǧǧārī, he served as the chief judge (qāḍī al-quḍāt) of Baghdad. He learned Shāfiʿī jurisprudence (fiqh) from Abū'l-Ḥasan b. Ḥalden and other masters. He held judicial and oratory positions in Mecca. Originally, he was from Mecca, but he migrated to Baghdad, where he attained worldly wealth and ranks. Later, he was dismissed from the judiciary because a certain muḥzir (a censor or corrector) altered his writing against him. It is narrated that people used to visit him. Allah knows best. After his dismissal, he secluded himself at home and eventually died in that state.
