Abū'l-Ḥayr al-Tinnānī

He was an ascetic and a devout worshipper. He was of Arab origin. He resided in the village of Tinnān, affiliated with the districts of Antioch. Because his hand was cut off, he was called "Akta" (the cut-off). Previously, he had made a vow to Allāh, but he broke this vow. Once, while wandering in the desert and worshipping in solitude, he was caught together with a band of thieves, and his hand was cut off along with theirs. He had wondrous spiritual states and karāmāt (saintly wonders). With his only intact hand, he wove baskets. A man came to him, and upon seeing his condition, obtained a promise from him not to reveal this state to anyone during his lifetime. The man gave a firm promise on this matter and kept his word.
