His name is Aḥmad b. Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad b. ʿUbaydullāh b. Yazīd.
He transmitted and narrated ḥadīth from his grandfather, ʿAbbās al-Durrī, and from Muḥammad b. Isḥāq al-Ṣāghānī. He was a trustworthy, ṣiqah (reliable), ḥujjah (proof), and truthful narrator. He authored many works. He compiled books on many sciences, but people heard very little from him because he was of stern character. The last person to narrate from him was Muḥammad b. Fāris al-Lughawī. Ibn al-Jawzī reported that Abū Yūsuf al-Qaddūsī said:
“Abū'l-Ḥusayn b. Munādī composed over 440 books concerning the sciences of the Qurʾān. His speech contained no unnecessary or meaningless words. On the contrary, he spoke by selecting words carefully. He combined the knowledge of riwāyah (transmission) and dirāyah (understanding).”
Ibn al-Jawzī said: “Whoever examines his compositions understands the abundance of his knowledge and his profound learning, and obtains beneficial information in his books that is not found in other works.”
Abū'l-Ḥusayn passed away at the age of eighty in the month of Muḥarram of this year.
