Abū'l-Karīm Muzaffar b. Mubārak b. Aḥmad b. Muḥammad. He was from Baghdad. He belonged to the Ḥanafī madhhab. He was the shaykh of the Abū Ḥanīfa isnād (chain of transmission). He also served as a shaykh in other places. He was the muḥtasib (chief of police) of the western side of Baghdad. He was a virtuous, pious, and poetic person. One of his poems is as follows:
“Protect your nafs (the lower self) by patiently enduring beautifully.
Strive to attain noble virtues.
Do not let slip the reward and recompense of these.
Live a sound life; let good words be spoken about you.
Live generously.
So that the hardships of life become easy for you.
Days come and go, all pass away and diminish.
Neither the sweet nor the tormenting remains.
Time is like the passing of a day and night.
Life is the folding up and passing away of this time.
Wisdom lies in proper brotherhood.
Within you is the essence and clarity of heights.
Cease chasing after dreams and illusions.
Because one day both their truth and falsehood will flee away.”
