Abū Muḥammad Maḥmūd b. Maqdūd b. Maḥmūd al-Baldajī. He belonged to the Ḥanafī madhhab. He was from Mosul. In Mosul, there is a madrasa known by his name. He was Turkish. He was among the great scholars. He possessed a sound religious iman (faith). He wrote beautiful poetry. One of his poems is as follows:
“If someone claims to have a ḥāl (spiritual state) that would lead him out of the sharia (sacred law) path,
Do not befriend him, for he is useless and also filth.”
Abū Muḥammad passed away in Mosul around the age of eighty on the twenty-sixth of Jumādā al-Ākhirah in this year.
